How do you reverse a sample without rendering anything?

Watch the neighbouring control. Reverse polarity is a different operation: it flips the waveform vertically rather than in time. On its own it is inaudible; it only matters when the clip is layered against another copy of itself. If you flip that switch expecting backwards audio, nothing will appear to happen.
The limit of the switch is scope. It reverses the whole sample as loaded, so partial reversal, trimming a reversed region, or exporting the flipped version as its own file all mean going through Edison instead.
How do you reverse an audio clip with Edison?
Edison is FL Studio’s audio editor and recorder, and it holds its own copy of the audio in a buffer. Five steps:
- Get the audio into Edison. Load it into a mixer insert slot, or send an existing sample there from the channel rack’s right-click menu.
- Select the region. Drag across the waveform to flip part of it. No selection means the whole buffer.
- Apply Reverse from Edison’s edit menu. The waveform redraws mirrored immediately.
- Drag the result out. Dragging from Edison’s waveform into the playlist or channel rack creates a clip from the reversed buffer. Save it as a WAV first if you want the file to survive the project.
- Align the peak. The final instant of a reversed clip is the original attack, and the ear treats it as the arrival point — so that instant belongs on beat one, not the clip’s start.

Which reverse method should you use in FL Studio?

How do you make reverse reverb in FL Studio?
Reverse reverb is a flip, a print, and a flip back. The order matters:
- Reverse the dry clip — the Sampler switch is enough here.
- Route it to a mixer track with a reverb on it, and set that reverb wet-heavy so the tail dominates.
- Put Edison in a slot after the reverb on the same track, arm it, and play the clip through. Edison captures the processed audio, tail included.
- Reverse Edison’s recording. The tail is now at the front, swelling into the point where the dry note begins.
- Drag it back to the playlist and line the end of the swell up with the forward note it introduces.
The characteristic sound — a whoosh that sucks inward and resolves on the downbeat — comes from the reverb decay running backwards, not from the note itself. Give the reverb a long decay if you want a two-bar approach and a short one if you only want a hint ahead of a vocal line. Why does a reversed clip sound off-grid or clicky?
Two causes, both fixable before you reverse rather than after.
Off-grid is almost always trailing silence. If the source clip has any dead air or ringing past its final beat, that material moves to the front once flipped and pushes everything late by exactly that much. Trim the source to an exact bar length at the project tempo first, then reverse. Correcting afterwards means nudging against an envelope that no longer lines up with anything.
Clicks come from cut points that do not land on a zero crossing. A forward clip that faded out gently now starts at full amplitude from silence, and the jump is audible as a tick. Two fixes: cut where the waveform crosses zero, or add a fade of a few milliseconds at the front of the reversed clip. Edison shows the waveform closely enough to do either by eye, and a short fade is invisible against a swell.
There is also a musical version of “off”: reversed clips that repeat too often. A reversed loop announces itself after about four bars, at which point listeners hear “backwards” rather than hearing music. Use flipped material as an event — a fill, a lead-in, a riser — rather than a bed.
